Set price endings and understand rounding

Use .99 endings, nearest-value rounding or whole numbers, and understand why rounding can change the actual discount percentage.

Use Rounding to adjust a calculated price to a whole number or a chosen ending. The ending is applied after the price calculation, so a 20% decrease followed by .99 rounding might no longer be exactly 20% off.

Choose a rounding mode

Mode

Result

No rounding

No extra whole-number or ending rule; currency precision still applies

Round to whole number

The nearest whole currency unit; 7.80 becomes 8 and 7.30 becomes 7

Override cents

An ending from 00 to 99

Set price ending

A digit pattern such as *.99, with * leaving that position unrestricted

For Override cents and Set price ending, To nearest value allows the price to move up or down to the closest matching value. Without it, the app chooses an upward result. For example, using an ending of .99 on 10.10 gives 9.99 with nearest-value rounding, or 10.99 without it.

With Set price ending and To nearest value, Add second ending lets the app choose the closest result from two endings, such as .49 and .99.

Change only the price ending

  1. Click Create task and choose Product prices.

  2. Under Price, select Don't change price.

  3. Set Rounding to Override cents and enter 99, or use Set price ending for a different pattern.

  4. Choose whether to enable To nearest value.

  5. Leave Compare at price and Cost per item unchanged and select No rounding for each field you want to preserve.

  6. Select the products under Apply to.

  7. Click Create task when ready to apply.

Set new price uses the exact amount you enter, subject to currency precision and price limits. It does not offer an additional rounding rule.

Why a percentage can look different

With No rounding, a percentage price decrease normally rounds down to the smallest currency unit. For example, 9.95 USD reduced by 10% becomes 8.95 USD. In JPY, 1,495 reduced by 10% becomes 1,345 JPY. Market calculations use the price list's currency precision.

At extremely small prices, the currency cannot represent every requested percentage. The app avoids changing a valid price to zero, so the resulting discount can differ or the old price can remain.

Whole-number or ending rules can make the discount smaller or larger. For example, a 22% decrease from 10 calculates to 7.80, which rounds to 8 with Round to whole number. That is 20% below the original 10. A 20% storefront badge matches those values only if the actual Compare at price is also 10; the original price is not automatically the current compare-at value. A theme can also round its displayed discount badge. Compare the actual Price and Compare at price, the task or sale's Details, and its rounding settings before treating a badge such as โ€œ9%โ€ as a failed 10% calculation. Older price changes can reflect the calculation used when they ran; do not apply another percentage decrease just to correct a badge.
